Walking through Genoa’s street means walk through time. Looking at the shops’ signs in Via XXV Aprile you are transported in the Belle Epoque. It is like walking among the wealthy Genoese bourgeoisie. But if you take a look at the name of the “carruggi” (Alleys) you step even back in time to the Middle Age. A time in which the area around Portello was considered a suburb. There many disreputable inns arose. Actually, Vico Testadoro and Vico del Ferro owe their name to the shop’s signs of some of those inns!
